There have been many stories of deathbed visions. They are extremely common among dying patients. Often, dying patients report seeing or receiving visits from angels, deceased loved ones, or spiritual guides.

One very common question that we often get asked as hospice providers is “are deathbed visions real?” Well, it is really quite hard to answer this. Some believe they are while others will simply chalk them up to the changes in brain chemistry.
However, when it comes to deathbed visions, if they are real or not to you isn’t important. They are very real to the dying patient, and their beliefs and visions should be respected and believed to provide ultimate comfort. It can be difficult if your loved one is passing and speaking to you about spiritual visitors.
However, hospice nurses and caregivers can report that often patients will find comfort and calm while experiencing deathbed visions.
When a loved one mentions to you that they are experiencing deathbed visions, it can be disconcerting. Perhaps they will tell you that a deceased parent or spiritual guide is speaking to them and you may be concerned. However, for your loved one, it can be transformative.
You may even notice that they find far more peace and may talk about soon joining the loved one they are experiencing visits from. Sometimes, they find more peace with their deceased loved one nearby. It can often be tempting to correct them, but you are better off letting them enjoy the comfort they are receiving.
Instead of disagreeing with them, ask them to share with you what they are seeing. Let them know that you are overjoyed that they are experiencing something that brings them great peace.
