A hospice physician is responsible for providing crucial care during the last months or weeks or life. Working with a team of hospice nurses, caregivers, and the patient themselves, hospice physicians ensure that the patient is as comfortable as possible and make recommendations for further care. When you receive hospice care from La Bella Vita Hospice, you gain access to the skills and expertise of hospice physicians to provide the best possible care for you or your loved one.
Hospice physicians can come from different backgrounds and fields of medicine. But they share the common goal of easing suffering, and make expert medical recommendations based on the patient’s needs. Unlike a typical doctor who may have 200 or more patients, hospice physicians have the flexibility to see patients as often as needed. Physicians will visit the patient on a regular schedule, and if the patient is in continuous care, they may visit more often. They are also on call if the patient’s condition suddenly changes or worsens. They communicate extensively with the patient, their caregivers, and their nursing staff to determine how the patient is progressing and develop medical recommendations.
Hospice physicians are not primary caregivers; that role should be filled by a trained nurse or family member. But physicians are essential elements of the team, directing the patient’s overall course of treatment. Watching over a person’s life is a great responsibility, one that hospice physicians take seriously.
Our physicians have a sense of duty towards their patients, viewing the easing of suffering as their greatest calling.
